Grub Parties
The Grub. Each Grub Party centers around healthful meals made from sustainably grown and as much as possible organic foods. Buy local, organic, seasonal foods for your meal. We get ours from farmer?s markets, community gardens, food coops and independently owned stores. There are great online resources for finding out where to get that kind of Grub. See www.localharvest.org.
The Gift. Each of our guests shares a gift at the party. At the first party, our friend Jee Kim brought a book he co-edited, Another World is Possible, about communities of color responses to 9/11, and Adriana from the Lower East Side Girls Club brought baked-by-the-girls cookies shaped like a peace dove with “vote” in sugary icing. Other friends offered everything from an oration on the “five reasons to oppose the Central American Free Trade Agreement” to an impromptu rhyme connecting conflict diamonds in Africa with violence among urban youth in America.
The Meal. Friends at Organic Valley and other folks supporting sustainable food have created Earth Dinner. Take a look at their website for more ideas.
The Follow Up. Do you want to be able to stay in touch with your group after the gathering? Create a listserve? Share people’s emails with each other to facilitate connections?
We encourage you to host your own Grub Party. Create your own traditions and send us a blurb and digital photographs and we will post them on the site.
